This interactive live webinar is offered to therapists who have already received some training in Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) who want to extend their clinical skills. It is required that the participants will have attended previously either CFT-1 or other CFT training presented by Paul Gilbert or other Compassion-Focused Therapists.

CFT-2 aim to deepen clinical skills to treat a wide range of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, anger, inner criticisms and shame in clients. The focus will be on learning clinical tools that can better assist clients as well as cultivating self-care and a personal practice in compassionate mind training for the therapist.
This course will be presented by Marie Bloomfield, Clinical Psychologist and John Julian, Social Worker, both accomplished therapists with over 40 years of experience, who have been using Compassion-Focused since 2011 in Australia following ongoing extensive training with Paul Gilbert.
Why extend training in Compassion-Focused Therapy?
COMPASSION-FOCUSED THERAPY (CFT), developed by Paul Gilbert, is an empirically validated therapeutic intervention that calls on the more evolved human mental capacity of empathy and compassion to promote wellbeing, resilience and better relationships.
Compassion-Focused Therapy or Compassionate Mind Training is especially helpful with clients who are experiencing a high level of self-criticism and shame which is known to exacerbate and maintain depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, weight concerns, obsessive-compulsive disorders, chronic pain, hoarding and post-traumatic stress disorders.
Cultivating compassion and self-compassion increase the capacities to engage in a supportive relationship and to foster emotions of safeness, contentment, belonging and connection which are key to psychological healing. Many therapists from a variety of approaches such as CBT, ACT, EMDR as well as many others are learning Compassion-Focused Therapy to extend their clinical expertise to facilitate greater transformation in themselves and their clients.
As we learn to cultivate self-compassion, we develop a relationship with ourselves that is kind, supportive, understanding and caring which helps in regulating difficult emotions and re-organises motivation and perspectives, to promote courage, wisdom and skilful actions.

Research increasingly shows that cultivating the three flows of compassion promotes positive clinical outcomes as well as protects therapists from stress burnout, empathy distress, caregiver fatigue and vicarious trauma which arises as we resonate with the struggles of our clients.
An increasing body of research is showing that Compassion-Focused Therapy fosters mental and physical health. Studies in clinical settings are showing that they can lead to significant psychological improvements in clients with a diagnosis of anxiety, depression, trauma, brain injury, eating disorders, personality disorders, hoarding disorders, chronic pain, schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, and other chronic mental health problems.
Compassion-Focused Therapy also called Compassionate Mind Training has been used in a variety of clinical and non-clinical settings. It has been shown to increase emotional regulation, well-being, resilience, positive relationships, a healthy lifestyle and a sense of meaning in the world.
Previous training required to attend this course
It is assumed that the participants will have received prior training in CFT either having attended our CFT 1 or participated in other Compassion-Focused Therapy training. The participants will be expected to understand the CFT theoretical framework and clinical applications such as three flows of compassion, fears and blocks of compassion, evolutionary model of the brain, the role of the affiliative emotions in threat regulation, Case Formulation and Life Plan Formulation, three circles emotion systems, ease inner critic, guilt and shame, multiple selves inner dialogues, chair work, visualisations of compassionate other/self as well as essential mindfulness and self-compassionate practices for grounding and soothing.
At the completion of CFT-2, you will be more able to:
• Guide chair work to ease the inner-critic and shame
• Explore attachment styles and ability to regulate threat-based emotions
• Present compassionate visualisations for rescripting in attachment repair
• Extensive work with the multi-selves and threat-based emotions such as anger, anxiety and sadness/grief
• Explore visualisations of a compassionate supervisor, perfect nurturer, and mirror meditation
• Applications of CFT for trauma interventions
• Understand vicarious trauma for the therapist and prevention strategies for burnout
• Develop Case Formulation and Positive Life Plan Formulation
• Promote self-compassion, resilience and self-care in the therapist
• Teach self-reflective exercises, meditations and visualisations to cultivate compassion and self-compassion
What to expect:
This course is a live interactive Webinar. The content of the course provides practical applications and tools for extending clinical skills as well as promoting a personal practice in compassionate mind training. Each topic will be followed by experiential exercises and worksheets. The sessions will consist of guided meditations/visualisations, as well as self-reflective exercises, role plays and case discussions. The participant will be encouraged to present a Case Formulation and Life Plan Formulation.
Every session will be recorded so that if you cannot attend the session on the day, you can view the session at a later time.
The format of each session is more or less as followed:
1. Initial meditation demonstrating a concept to be presented during the session
2. Breakout room in groups of 3-4 participants to discuss assignments of the previous session
3. Presentation of power points of concepts relating to the application of CFT
4. Practices or exercises with worksheets group or pair work/role-play and case formulation presentations
5. Assignments for the week: clinical and personal applications of CFT
Who is it for:
This training course is for Health Professionals and Therapists who see clients face to face or in group sessions such as psychologists, clinical psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, school counsellors, mental health/psychiatric nurses, occupational therapists, coaches, counsellors and others working in a variety of settings in mental health, drug and alcohol, relationship counselling, genetic counselling and so on.
The course will be beneficial for health professionals who wish to cultivate a compassionate mind to promote wellbeing, resilience and satisfaction in their personal and work life.
Continued Professional Development (CPD)
A Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Certificate of Attendance (12 hours) will be given to everyone at the end of the course. Also, a Certificate for Active Learning (14 hours) will be available, following additional the completion of a questionnaire, Case Formulation and Life Plan Formulation. This course is advertised with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) for focused-psychological strategies for Mental Health practitioners and is also promoted on the Australian Psychological Society (APS) on the calendar of events.

John and Marie have been using Compassion-Focused Therapy and Mindful Self-Compassion for individual and group clinical interventions since 2011.
